In Brazil, transsexuals (mostly referred as "travestis") aren't an uncommon sight on public tv channels (I'm not sure how it is now tbh). I know I was exposed to them for the first time that way, back in the 90s. I think my earliest memory is of Joyce Hulsten in a televised carnival. I was very intrigued.
But without a shadow of a doubt, the first trans that knocked me out of my chair in full disbelief was Barbie Woods. That was early 2000s.
